Countries Not Party to the Paris Agreement

The Paris Agreement, officially known as the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, is a significant international treaty addressing climate change. It was adopted by 196 countries in 2015, and as of 2021, 189 countries have ratified the agreement.

However, there are still a few countries that have not joined the Paris Agreement. Here are the countries not party to the Paris Agreement:

1. Iran – Iran has not signed or ratified the Paris Agreement despite being a member of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

2. Iraq – Iraq has not signed or ratified the Paris Agreement yet.

3. Libya – Libya has not signed or ratified the Paris Agreement yet.

4. South Sudan – South Sudan is the youngest country in the world and has not signed or ratified the Paris Agreement yet.

5. Eritrea – Eritrea has not signed or ratified the Paris Agreement yet.

6. Turkey – Turkey signed the Paris Agreement in 2016 but has not ratified it yet.

7. Yemen – Yemen has not signed or ratified the Paris Agreement yet.

8. Turkmenistan – Turkmenistan has not signed or ratified the Paris Agreement yet.

9. Nicaragua – Nicaragua was one of the few countries that refused to sign the Paris Agreement in 2015, citing that it was not ambitious enough to tackle climate change.

10. United States – The United States, previously part of the Paris Agreement, withdrew from the treaty in 2020 under the Trump administration. However, President Biden has since rejoined the agreement.

It is interesting to note that all the countries not party to the Paris Agreement are developing countries or countries that have faced or are currently facing political instability and conflicts.

The Paris Agreement aims to limit global warming to below 2 degrees Celsius, with a more ambitious goal of 1.5 degrees Celsius. It also seeks to strengthen countries` ability to deal with the impacts of climate change and mobilize financial resources for climate action.

While the absence of some countries from the Paris Agreement may seem significant, it is important to remember that it is a global effort, and the involvement of all countries is crucial to achieving its goals.
